Special Purpose Sign District
Description A Special purpose sign district (SPSD) can be created to address unique sign standards that only apply with a designated project area.

Decisionmaker Town Council makes the final decision

Amendments An approved district can be amended to address new circumstances based on the criteria listed below. As described, a proposed amendment is classified as minor or major.
  1. Minor amendments to the approved SPSD may be approved by the Administrative Official when the requested changes are restricted to altering the location of approved signs on the subject property.
  2. Requests to amend the approved SPSD for additional or larger signs are classified as major amendments and require approval by the Town Council.
  3. Major amendment submittals shall be allowed to be requested one time within the six-month period after the initial SPSD ordinance is adopted.
  4. Subsequent major amendment submittals shall be allowed one time per year, based on the date the SPSD ordinance is adopted.

Appeals The Town Council's decision can be appealed to the circuit court.
Application Fee
$500.00

Fees will be invoiced via the Citizen Self Service (CSS) Portal when the application is deemed complete.

Submittal Deadline
Application submittals and resubmittals may be submitted through the Online Application Portal (i.e. Citizen Self-Service Portal) any time during the week until 5 p.m. on Thursday. Any application submitted after 5 p.m. on Thursday will be placed on the next week's submittal list. Only the applications received by 5 p.m. on Thursday that include all required materials will proceed through the review process.
